Soroptimists Seek Applicants for Recognition Program Honoring Young Women’s Volunteer Action

Soroptimist International of Corvallis, an international volunteer organization for business and professional women, is seeking applicants for its recognition program targeted to young women who make the community and world a better place. The Violet Richardson Award honors young women of high school age for volunteer action such as fighting drugs, crime and violence; cleaning up the environment; and working to end discrimination and poverty.

“As a volunteer service organization for business and professional women, Soroptimist believes that by acknowledging young women’s volunteer involvement now, they will grow up to be vital, active members of the community,” said Trudy Overlin, President of the Corvallis club.

Soroptimist International of Corvallis presents a $500 award to winners; $250 for the awardee and $250 for the charity of their choice. Applications for the recognition program are available online at SoroptimistCorvallis.org (see homepage link).  Applications must be returned to Soroptimist International of Corvallis no later than November 15, 2016.  Applications may be emailed to address on the application or returned via mail to Soroptimist International of Corvallis, Attn:  Grants Committee, P.O. Soroptimist International of Corvallis Accepting Applications for Live Your Dream Scholarship

Soroptimist International (SI) of Corvallis, a local chapter of the international volunteer organization for business and professional women, is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2016-2017 ‘Live Your Dream Award’.  Live Your Dream Awards assist women who provide the primary source of financial support for their families by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills and employment prospects.

Eligible applicants must be residents of Benton County who are enrolled in, or have been accepted to, a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program at Linn-Benton Community College or Oregon State University and can demonstrate financial need.  One awardee will be advanced to the state-level Live Your Dream competition.

This year SI Corvallis will award two scholarships for up to $2,500 each.  General information and eligibility criteria can be found online at SoroptimistCorvallis.org (see homepage link).  Completed applications may be emailed to address listed in the instructions or mailed to Soroptimist International of Corvallis, Attn: Grants Committee, PO Box 1322, Corvallis, OR 97339.  Applications must be received no later than November 15, 2016.
